The scientific field trip was conducted as part of the project "Biodiversity and Distribution of Sphagnum Mosses in China and the Asian Part of Russia." The participants included specialists from Yugra State University, East China Normal University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Tsitsin Main Botanical Garden, Yaroslavl State University, and St. Petersburg State University.
The YSU field station is located 20 kilometres from Khanty-Mansiysk, on the bank of the Mukhrina River, where continuous monitoring of ecosystems in the middle taiga zone of Western Siberia is carried out. On this occasion, the scientists set out to study sphagnum mosses, which are a source of peat formation, possess bactericidal properties, and can even give rise to streams and rivers.
In the near future, the group will continue its work, this time in the Kondinskie Lakes Nature Park.
