Meeting with a Representative of Daffodil International University: A Fresh Perspective on Journalism and International Cooperation

A meeting was held at Yugra State University between students of the Journalism programme (42.03.02) and Professor Greg Simons from Daffodil International University (Dhaka, Bangladesh). The event was attended by the Programme Head, Ilya Tarasov, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Humanities, as well as journalism students Milana Guseva and Andrey Gurov.

It should be noted that in June 2025, Yugra State University and Daffodil International University signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation. Earlier, a teleconference was held dedicated to the development of youth and academic ties between Russian and Bangladeshi universities.

During the meeting, the students presented their project "YSU through the Eyes of Hakim." The idea behind the project is to help international students familiarise themselves with the university, its atmosphere, and the specifics of studying there. The journalism students took on the task of showcasing YSU through the perspective of an international student, creating engaging video content.

Andrey Gurov and Milana Guseva shared their experience working on the project. According to the students, roles were initially clearly assigned within the team: some acted as camera operators, others as presenters, and some were responsible for writing the script. However, during the process, it turned out that rigid role allocation was not always effective.

"As it turned out, roles eventually shifted, and essentially everyone took part in everything," the students noted. This approach allowed each team member to try their hand at different roles, which significantly enriched their professional experience. The supervisor who joined the team helped coordinate the work and guide the creative process in the right direction.

One of the main challenges the creators faced was identifying key topics and focus points. As the students admitted, the most difficult part was figuring out what would be most interesting and important for the target audience.

Professor Greg Simons highly appreciated the students' initiative and their approach to the work. He noted that such projects not only develop professional skills but also help strengthen international ties between universities. The professor also shared successful case studies of students from Bangladesh and suggested new ideas and formats for future projects.

We wish the team continued creativity and look forward to more exciting content from them!
