Chinese scientist visited YuSU
Dr. Dongliang Zhang from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences arrived in the capital of Yugra to develop scientific collaboration in paleoecology and study the dynamics of Western Siberian wetland landscapes.

Led by Professor Elena Lapshina and Evgeny Zarov, a senior researcher at the Carbon Data Center, the expert visited the Mukhrino field station.

The scientists toured the carbon testing site, discussed future plans for collaboration, and learned about the wetland types.

During the visit, a 5-meter-deep peat core was collected for subsequent soil carbon analysis, which will provide new data on peat formation processes and the long-term accumulation of organic carbon in Western Siberian wetland ecosystems.

The research is being conducted as part of a submitted application for a grant from the Russian Science Foundation on the topic: "The relationship between hydrology, climate, vegetation, and microbiota in the carbon balance of peat bogs in Western Siberia during the Holocene."
