Children's carbon polygon of YuSU became the second degree laureate of the II International Climate Contest “Green Eurasia” in the nomination “Climate Awareness and Education”. The organizer is the ANO “Agency for Strategic Initiatives for Promotion of New Projects”. In addition, the university's practice was recognized by the Andrey Melnichenko Charity Foundation as the best natural climate solution.

The winners and finalists of the contest in 15 different nominations were 57 best climate practices from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The project is curated by Irina Akhmedova, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Ecology.
We would like to remind that the Children's Carbon Polygon of Yugra State University was opened in October 2023 and is the only platform in Russia where children have the opportunity to gain knowledge through experience - to work on real equipment that is currently used at carbon polygons, to receive real data, to learn how to process and interpret them correctly.
With the support of a grant from the Governor of Yugra, the Children's Carbon Polygon has already successfully organized a children's shift “Yugra. Ecology. Talents.” The children made measurements on modern equipment, worked with high-precision measuring devices.
“Today in Russia more and more carbon polygons are being created, which allow to conduct serious scientific research of climate change in various ecosystems. Last year, for the first time such a facility appeared in our country, aimed at attracting the youngest audience to this work. The initiative of Yugra State University has become a breakthrough, as it allows not only to obtain relevant and highly necessary data for studying behavior of greenhouse gases, but also to popularize climate science among children,” commented Ilya Tipunin, Deputy Director General of the Andrey Melnichenko Charity Foundation for Science.
“The project provides early training for schoolchildren in the region on the climate agenda, thus helping to encourage talented young people to stay in the region. Irina Akhmedova and her team have done a great job! This is a big success!”, - said Roman Kuchin, Rector of YuSU.
We congratulate the project team and wish them further success.
