WEST SIBERIAN PEATLANDS AND CARBON CYCLE:
THE PAST AND THE PRESENT
We invite you to participate in the WSPCC 2024 - Seventh International Field Symposium «West Siberian Peatlands And Carbon Cycle: Past And Present»
The Symposium aims to promote a broad exchange of knowledge in the study of biodiversity, waterlogging processes and preservation of biosphere functions of bogs and wetland forests, integrated ecological monitoring of bog ecosystems, the role of bogs in the global carbon cycle, as well as the assessment of anthropogenic impacts on the functioning of peatlands and the introduction of modern technologies for low-carbon nature management in the context of climate change.
The plenary, breakout sessions and direct communication during field trips will discuss the main results in the study of biodiversity and functioning of bog ecosystems, modelling of carbon exchange and peat accumulation processes, protection and reclamation of bogs, and implementation of climate projects.
MAIN SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS OF THE SYMPOSIUM
1. Role of peatlands in the global carbon cycle. Ecological modelling.
2. Biodiversity and ecology of peatlands.
3. Biogeochemical cycles of natural and anthropogenically disturbed bog ecosystems. Biogeochemistry of peats and bog waters.
4. Palaeoecology and developmental history of bog ecosystems.
5. Influence of modern climatic changes on forest-marsh ecosystems.
6. Bogs as highly protected objects and their role in the sustainable development of regions.
Russian and English.
Please note that all presentations at the Symposium should be prepared in English.
FORMATS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE SYMPOSIUM
OFFLINE - with an oral presentation or poster (participation without a presentation is possible).
ONLINE - with an oral presentation or poster.
PARTIAL - presentation of materials without participation in the Symposium sessions.
For participants whose papers are included in the Symposium Programme, in the sections "Video presentations / posters", it is suggested to record a video of 3 to 10 minutes (any file format).
The video may take the form of a full report with presentation or a short commentary on the poster and will be posted on the Symposium website.
Online participation will be organised on Zoom platform with simultaneous broadcasting on YouTube channel. Links to the video conference and YouTube channel will be sent later.
PUBLICATION OF PROCEEDINGS
Abstracts will be published after payment of the registration fee and provided to the participants before the Symposium.
Following the Symposium, the best works will be published in the peer-reviewed journal "Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change".
A special issue is also planned to be prepared in IOP Conf. Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2025
Materials for the Symposium Proceedings and full papers must be submitted in electronic form by e-mail:
Please send video materials and posters for timely posting on the Symposium website by e-mail:
